Hash Generator
Generate SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, or SHA-1 digests locally.
About the Hash Generator
The Hash Generator computes a SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 or SHA-1 digest of any text and shows it as hexadecimal. The same input always gives the same hash, and any change to the input gives a completely different one.
It uses your browser's built-in Web Crypto functions on the UTF-8 bytes of your text. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type is uploaded to our server, so it is safe to use with private data.
How to use it
- Paste the text to hash.
- Choose the digest algorithm.
- Select Generate hash and copy the result.
Common uses
- Comparing a value with a published checksum.
- Checking whether two pieces of text are exactly identical.
- Producing test vectors while developing software.
Tips
- Prefer SHA-256 or stronger; SHA-1 is kept only for older systems.
- Plain hashes are not suitable for storing passwords; use a dedicated password hashing algorithm for that.
- Hidden spaces or line breaks change the hash, so copy text carefully.
